Adam’s Rib Film Profiles Custom Canoe Craftsman

Marc Russell is a former summer camp program director at Kilcoo Camp in Ontario who founded his own custom-canoe company Gull Lake Boat Works in 2008. The company is named after Kilcoo Camp’s lake and one of his first projects was to rehab and replace the camp’s aging fleet of antique cedar plank and canvas canoes.

Marc’s painstakingly detailed and late night solitary work is detailed in the visually stunning documentary Adam’s Rib by the documentary film duo Penn Penache (James Arthurs and Cam Roden). It’s the first in a series of films (Lively Hood) the duo set out to make about Toronto-area craftsman.
