Alex Kazemi’s forthcoming novel opens at summer camp in 1999

Teenage author Alex Kazemi’s forthcoming novel Yours Truly, Brad Sela opens at the fictional summer camp West Canyon, circa 1999. The author himself was five at the time so he doesn’t draw from personal experience but based on the first 10 pages available online seems to have done his research.

I was a counselor at summer camp in 1999 and I found myself instantly brought into the story, written in diary form reminiscent of William Butler’s 1961 summer camp novel The Butterfly Revolution. Yours Truly, Brad Sela is not a summer camp novel though. At the end of the 10 pages, the narrator finds himself “trapped in the suburbs.”

The book is being released in 2014 by MTV Books.
