Bunkbeds aren’t just for summer camp anymore

Luxury hotels are getting in on bunk-beds to try and lure customers away from Airbnb, according to a recent article in The Wall Street Journal.

The article notes that hotels like The Basecamp Hotel in Lake Tahoe, California, the South Congress Hotel in Austin, Texas and Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants have added bunk-beds to accommodate groups.

From the article:

“While home rentals through services like Airbnb also accommodate groups, hotels are banking on the bunk rooms appealing because they offer extra bonding time and cost-efficiency without giving up the prime location and of-the-moment bars, restaurants and spas boutique hotels offer.”

“The bunk rooms were usually created with families in mind, but are at least as likely to attract groups celebrating a bachelorette party or a guys’ weekend, hotel executives say.”
