Performing arts camp founder, blogger and professional arts and culturist Lisa Phillips has released a new book about the impact arts and performance has on youth development.
Titled The Artistic Edge: 7 Skills Children Need to Succeed in an Increasingly Right Brain World, the book explores why leadership skills gained through arts education are critical and statistically tied to the success of our generation of youth.
“Competition for jobs is fierce and those who are winning are creative, adaptable, confident, accountable, communication-savvy problem solvers who know how to build relationships and dream big,” Phillips writes in the book.
A long-time proponent of the positive impact arts and performance has on youth development, Phillips has more than 15 years of experience in performing arts education and youth leadership development. She also has an extensive background in the summer camp world. Prior to becoming the founder/director of Horizon Arts Camp, she worked for five years at Camp Encore/Coda, a music camp in Maine and was the founder and director of the AFC Arts Adventure Camp.
