Camp friends reunite in ‘The Weekend’

theweekendmovie

A group of friends from Towunga Pines (and a few awkward newbies) get together for a weekend in a new indie film released earlier this week on iTunes and YouTube.

Though the plot resembles the 1995 movie Indian Summer, the ensemble cast, real-time style of filming and clever writing that overcomes any single location limitations give the film an edge atypical of more family-friendly summer camp fare. While it’s set in a rental cabin and not an actual camp, the movie is every bit a summer camp movie down to the end of the weekend camp song sing-along.

Quirky at times, hilarious at others, the film is an entertaining and emotional look into the challenges of growing up and the importance of of lifelong friendships, even imperfectly complicated and messy ones.
