Camp Kappawanna

A revamped version of Lisa Loeb’s hit musical Camp Kappawanna will be playing this weekend at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

While I knew all about Lisa Loeb’s Camp Lisa project, I wasn’t aware she had also penned a summer camp-themed musical. Lisa Loeb, who I first remember hearing singing her hit song “Stay, I Missed You” in the movie Reality Bites back when I was still camper age in the early ’90s has become quite the summer camp star.

Here’s the description for the musical, which is being produced by City Theatre productions:

Take a trip to CAMP KAPPAWANNA – a rocking family musical, appropriate for all ages. This must-see event celebrates timeless camp experiences with hip, cool music penned by Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter Lisa Loeb Loeb (#1 single “Stay, I Missed You”) along with a book by rising national talent Marco Ramirez.

Join young Jenny Jenkins, awkward and adorable and 12, a kid who hasn’t really found herself just yet. She’s going away for the summer – her very first time leaving home. From the start, CAMP KAPPAWANNA makes audiences of all generations feel as if they, too, are joining in the fun of summer camp!
