Counselor fired by Christian camp after pro-gay equality post

A Christian camp counselor has reportedly been asked not to return to work this summer after writing a post on her personal blog voicing her support for same-sex marriage.

The post was inspired by a Macklemore concert the blogger and camp counselor Dannika Nash recently attended in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. In it, Nash detailed the crowd response to the rapper’s song “Same Love.”

“During the song, almost every person at the concert had their hands up and their eyes closed…it reminded me of church,” Nash wrote in a post titled “An Open Letter to the Church from My Generation.”

“The whole crowd spoke every word with Macklemore,” Nash wrote. “We were thirsty for those words. We want to hear about equality and love in a gentle way. We’re sick of the harsh words of both sides.”

Nash told 429 Magazine in an interview that shortly after writing the post she was contacted by the unnamed Evangelical Lutheran Church of America camp she had presumably been planning to work at this summer and asked her views on same-sex marriage before being “asked not to come back.”
