‘Crazy Ex-Girlfriend’ opens at summer camp circa 2005

New CW series Crazy Ex-Girlfriend opens its pilot episode at the fictional Camp Canyon Grove in 2005.

In the flashback scene, the show’s title character, Rebecca Bunch (Rachel Bloom), is performing in a stage production of South Pacific and is singing the song “I’m In Love With a Wonderful Guy” on the last day of camp.

In the next scene, she says goodbye to her camp boyfriend Josh (Vincent Rodriguez III) who in a painfully awkward scene breaks up with her.

Flashing forward 10 years, Rebecca is a Harvard grad working as high-powered attorney in New York City when she spots Josh on the street and after a brief interaction and a whole lot of theatrics ends up deciding to follow him to West Covina, California.

The episode doesn’t flash back again to Canyon Grove, but something tells me this isn’t the last we’ve seen of the summer camp, circa 2005.
