Phil and Luke train for Family Camp in ‘Modern Family’ season finale

Few people look forward to Family Camp as much as Phil Dunphy on the ABC comedy Modern Family.

While the show has never actually gone to the camp, Phil has referenced it on more than one occasion, most memorably in a flashback scene of him getting out of a cab wearing his “If you ain’t white you ain’t right” color war t-shirt.

Family Camp comes up again in the “Double Click” episode (Season 7, Episode 22). Determined to win this year’s Famcathalon, Phil sets up tires in the front lawn so he and Luke can train.

But bad news strikes when (spoiler alert) Phil gets an email saying Family Camp has been canceled. “Not enough sign ups,” he tells Luke when breaking the news. But Luke is too bummed about being dumped to care, which only makes Phil more upset.

In the end, his family plans a surprise a trip to New York City instead. “I don’t know where we’re going but I love this,” Phil says when he’s woken up in the wee hours of the morning with the news.
