‘Family Guy’ references ‘Meatballs’ in family origin story

Family Guy made an odd reference to the 1979 summer camp movie Meatballs in an episode where Peter tells a story about the history of the Griffin family.

Peter tells a story in the “Griffin Family History” episode (Season 4, Episode 27) about how one of his ancestors pranked the captain of a slave ship he was on with a prank similar to one Morty gets pulled on him in Meatballs.

The slave ship captain wakes up with his bed on a dock in the water and then falls in as the “Are You Ready For the Summer?” song from the movie plays and Peter’s ancestors and the other slaves cheer on the ship above.
