Potter, designer, author and personality Jonathan Adler got his start in pottery as a 12-year-old at summer camp.
“I first tried pottery at summer camp when I was twelve,” Adler writes in his book My Prescription for Anti-Depressive Living. “I’d gone to camp to be a vital athlete, but then I laid eyes on the super-foxy pottery teacher and decided to take his class instead. The minute I touched clay, I was obsessed. I spent the entire summer in the pottery studio in a clay-spattered Rush concert tee. My parents came to pick me up at the end of the summer expecting to find a tan, vigorous soccer star, but instead they found a pale potter with a dream.”
