Ground broken for new YMCA summer camp in North Carolina

Ground was broken in western North Carolina last week for a new YMCA summer camp.

The camp, Camp Watia, is slated to open in summer 2016. It is located in Swain County on 900 acres of land gifted to the YMCA through a 125-year charitable land lease with property owners Ken and Nancy Glass.

When completed, the overnight camp will have a dining hall and kitchen, cabins that can house 265 campers, an administrative center, adventure course, volleyball court, amphitheater and a dock on the three-acre pond for swimming, according to an article in the Smoky Mountain News.

For more info, visit the YMCA Camp Watia website.
