Hairspray Live! star did his first play at summer camp

Actor Garrett Clayton, who plays Link Larkin in NBC’s Hairspray Live! got his first taste of theater while away at summer camp when he was 13.

“I went to a summer camp when I was younger and we got to choose one activity a week,” Clayton said in a 2012 interview. “I chose to participate in the play they were putting on and ended up being the worst Uncle Homer ever in the camp’s production of Charlotte’s Web. That’s how I got started.”

The 25-year-old Michigan native is best known for portraying Tanner in the Disney Channel movie Teen Beach Movie and has made guest appearances on The Fosters, Jessie, Shake It Up and The Real O’Neals.
