HBO’s ‘Girls’ had two camp references in latest episode

“I’ve always marched to the beat of my own drummer, ever since I cut my camp shirt into a halter top.” -Hannah Horvath (Lena Dunham)

HBO’s Girls included not one, but two summer camp references in the “I Get Ideas” episode, the second of season two, which aired on Sunday, Jan. 20, 2013.

The first is the above quote from the show’s star, played by Lena Dunham, talking to her roommate Elijah (Andrew Rannells of NBC’s The New Normal) about why she would date a Repub

lican (portrayed by Donald Glover of NBC’s Community).

The second comes from Shoshanna Shapiro (Zosia Mamet), who in season one had a short-term rekindled romance with a guy she met at Camp Ramah. Shoshanna is talking to her boyfriend Ray (Alex Karpovsky) about how she wishes he could have been at camp with her.

“It was like so amazing we did like water skiing and archery for sports and I was one of the few to get badges of honor in both, obviously,” she tells Ray, adding something about having to bathe pigs, which sends him rambling about pigs and how he’s always wanted to bathe one.
