‘Hobbit’ elf worked as archery instructor at summer camp

Actress Evangeline Lilly, who gets to shoot a bow and arrow as the Woodland warrior elf Tauriel in the upcoming second and third film adaptations of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit, had some experience with archery prior to taking on the role.

Lilly worked as an archery instructor at Green Bay Bible Camp in Kelowna, British Columbia. Lilly, who starred in the hit TV show Lost, touched on her summer camp experience in an interview with the Boston Herald:

“Believe it or not, I used to teach archery to little kids at a summer camp when I was a teenager. But I’m not a good marksman.”

She smiled, “I think one of the great gifts of CGI and imagination is you can imagine you’re more talented than you really are.”

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug opens in theaters Dec. 13.
