Horror summer camp anthology series ‘Dead of Summer’ coming to cable

Because there are apparently not enough slasher and anthology shows already on television, ABC Family/Freeform will be adding a slasher anthology series set at summer camp to its schedule called Dead of Summer.

The cable network’s first horror series is being executive produced by Once Upon a Time showrunners Adam Horowitz and Eddy Kitsis.

The drama, picked up straight to series, is set in 1989 at the fictional Camp Clearwater, “a seemingly idyllic Midwestern summer camp.”

According to the network’s description of the series, “Clearwater’s dark, ancient mythology awakens, and what was supposed to be a summer of fun soon turns into one of unforgettable scares and evil at every turn.” The show was reportedly first pitched as “John Hughes meets John Carpenter.”

There’s a good chance FOX’s slasher anthology series Scream Queens will also be packing for summer camp in its second season. Actor Oliver Hudson said as much in a recent appearance on Bravo TV’s Watch What Happens Live.
