June Cleaver was a star swimmer at summer camp

Beaver is assigned to write an essay about his mom in the “Mother’s Day Composition” episode of Leave It To Beaver (Season 3, Episode 31). But when he interviews his mom, he’s disappointed with how little his mom has to share about her life before she became a wife and a mother.

“Gee Mom, didn’t you ever do anything exciting before you stopped being a girl?” he asks his mom, June Cleaver (Barbara Billingsley).

“Well, once at summer camp I won a blue bathing cap at swimming meet,” she says.

“That’s pretty good mom,” Beaver says.

Beaver (Jerry Mathers) ends up writing an entirely different essay based on an interview he sees on TV with an actress, but winds up having to come clean when word gets back to his mom.
