Kickstarter for Children’s Summer Camp Book Series Launched

Camp Massad in Pennsylvania is sadly no longer active but the memories of the sleepaway camp in the Poconos live on in a new series of children’s picture books being launched by a proud alumnus.

Author Elliot Sloyer has launched a Kickstarter campaign to get the new series off the ground and was kind enough to send a draft copy of the first book, “The Safety Pin,” for me to check out. The book with illustrations by Vic Guiza is a fun and beautifully illustrated story from Elliot’s experience at camp involving a close camp friend and a safety pin.

Reading through the story put me back at camp as a kid and made me think of the friendships and experiences I had in my own halcyon days as a camper. It’s a funny story too that I can see parents having a lot of fun reading to their kids. I can’t wait to see the finished product and his other stories brought to life.

On his Kickstarter page, Sloyer writes:

“If you have ever spent any time at summer camp, you probably have some great stories to tell – many  that you will never forget. I’ve been telling these summer camp stories to children for years, and thought it would be fun to put them into a picture book series for others to enjoy.

Summer Camp Stories are educational, a bit zany, and promote great values, while subtly exposing children to different aspects of summer camp life.

The books are  geared for ages 6 to 106, because as the Wall Street Journal recently pointed out, great children’s picture books, are not just for children.”
