Shameless reminds us that RAs are not camp nurses

Every August as college starts up, it’s common to see incoming freshman posting on Twitter about how college is like summer camp. That of course is before freshman orientation ends and classes actually begin.

Lip Gallagher (Jeremy Allen White) encounters this confusion some students and their parents have about college and summer camp in the “Crazy Love” episode of Shameless (Season 5, Episode 6).

Returning to college early to take a job as a resident assistant, or RA as they are commonly known, Lip encounters an uptight mom who runs down the list of medications her daughter is on and the times she needs to take them.

“I’m sorry ma’am, this isn’t a summer camp and I’m not the camp nurse,” he tells her, before going down the hall to hassle some guys about smoking a water pipe while “mom and dad Iowa” are still there.
