Old Catskills Resort Being Leased for Summer Camp

One of the last of the grand old Borscht Belt resorts is being leased for a summer camp.

The Stevensville Hotel on Swan Lake, which has sat empty for a number of years, will be used this summer for a camp program run by Congregation Iched Anash in Monticello, N.Y., according to a Times Herald-Record article.

The Orthodox congregation is reportedly under contract to purchase the property and has “already invested hundreds of thousands worth of improvements into the property,” according to the article.

Congregation Iched Anash runs Camp Rav Tov D’Satmar on the former site of Kutsher’s Sports Academy in Monticello (Kutsher’s moved to the Berkshires in 2008). The New York Times published an article about the camp – where religion trumps sports – last summer.

Stevensville dates back to the 1920s and like a lot of the other resorts of the time in the Catskills hosted some of the biggest names in show business. Below are some photos of the site from Flickr and a video from 2009 about its history.
