William H. Pouch Scout Camp in Staten Island, N.Y., made a brief appearance in a recent episode of FX Cold War drama The Americans.
Though the camp, which doubles as Martial Eagle Camp on the show, has been referenced for a few weeks, it was finally shown on the “Martial Eagle” episode (season 2, episode 9). Martial Eagle is a secret government camp where the U.S. government is training Contras (a label given to the various rebel groups that were active from 1979 through to the early 1990s in opposition to the government in Nicaragua).
Russian spies Philip (Matthew Rhys) and Elizabeth (Keri Russell) infiltrate the camp hoping to get evidence of the training ground to leak to the press to embarrass the U.S. They arrive at the camp at night, Philip posed as a septic service driver and Elizabeth hidden in one of the tanks in the back of the truck. When they arrive the Contras are training in the woods, which is lighting up with ammunition and flares. The scenes are short but it’s obvious that it’s shot on location at a camp of some kind.
