‘Stranger Things’ star was away at summer camp when show came out

Stranger Things star Noah Schnapp was in a pop culture upside world we know as summer camp when the hit Netflix series debuted in July and didn’t realize how popular it had become.

Schnapp, 11, told WSJ Video that he was cut off from media while away at camp.

“One camp counselor started to talk to me about it a little, but I had no idea,” said Schnapp. “It was such a surprise when I got out, and people from all over the world started contacting me!”

Schnapp plays a character who goes missing in the fictional town of Hawkins, Indiana in the early ’80s and turns up in a world his friends refer to as the upside down.
