‘Summer Camp’ Reality Series Coming to USA Network

A summer camp-inspired series where 16 adults compete in Color War-style games is coming to USA Network. The series, to be called Summer Camp, has received an 8-episode order from the cable channel, according to Deadline.

It’s slated to debut this summer and will be produced by Allison Grodner and Rich Meehan’s Fly on the Wall Entertainment, of Big Brother fame and Sony Pictures TV.

“This series marries a fun, energizing and nostalgic concept with quirky characters, who will captivate our viewers, as they attempt to reclaim – or perhaps reinvent – their youth,”  Heather Olander, SVP, Alternative Programming for USA, was quoted saying in the Deadline report.

The show will feature “16 adults from all walks of life who go camping at an idyllic lakeside retreat where they take part in over-to-top competitions inspired by classic camp games. At the end of the summer, the remaining competitors face off in the ‘Campathalon,’ an Olympic style event.”

Based on the description, it sounds a lot like an adult version of Camp Orange, an Australian reality show where kids compete in a variety of challenges in a summer camp-type setting.

  1. As a veteran of one of the best Summer camps ever I’m looking forward to seeing how this show is produced! I went to camp Diana-Dalmaqia from 1950-1968. I started as a camper and eventually worked as a counselor!
From 1920 when the camp first opened until my last year 1968, I had relatives, uncles, cousins that attended this summer haven in Glen Spey New York. I was a Color War General on several occasions. During this event which lasted anywhere from a week to 9 days, each team of 200-250 members competed in all manners of sports, cultural and artistic activities. On the last night of Color War the teams competed in a Grand Sing and Presentation of the team the,es(examples WHITE KNIGHTS VS RED DRAGONS. 8 Original team songs were presented.Theme base Decor was created-a 40 foot dragon that had Moving wings and blew smoke and fire!

A team memorial plaque was created to hang in the Dining Room for all to remember. My camping years were the greatest years of my life! I can still sing all the Color War Songs(Many of which I wrote) from all the years I attended! While my Camp is no longer in operation I will never forget the summer home where I grew up. I’m hoping you do the Summer Camp Experience justice in your new reality series. If you ever need an advisor, a team player on your show I’d be happy to make myself available!

    1. Not sure. There was an opportunity several months ago to apply for the first season. I’m sure there will be something like that again if there is a second season.
