Trailer for ‘The Final Girls’ released ahead of Oct. 9 release

The movie within a fictional summer camp slasher movie The Final Girls is set to open in theaters on October 9 after a successful run at the SXSW film festival in March.

In the film, a group of teenagers, including the daughter of slasher queen Amanda Cartwright (Malin Ackerman) are mysteriously transported into the movie while watching a double feature of Camp Bloodbath 1 and 2 at a local theater on the anniversary of her mother’s death.

Trapped in the fictional universe of Camp Blue Finch, Max (Taissa Farmiga) is reunited with her mother and along with her friends (played by Thomas Middleditch, Alia Shawcat, Alexander Ludwig and Nina Dobrev) must fight off a deranged machete-wielding killer and find a way back home. The movie also stars Adam DeVine in an ’80s movie camp counselor part he looks like he was born to play.

The camp scenes were shot at Camp Marydale in St. Francisville, Louisiana. The first trailer, released this week, is below.
