UPS delivers package to summer camp in drone test

UPS recently delivered a package with a drone to Children’s Island Day Camp in Massachusetts as part of a test of emergency drone deliveries.

The drone delivered a small package to the camp on Children’s Island from Beverly, about 25 miles northeast of Boston. The drone traveled 25 miles in eight minutes.

Though deliveries of this nature go against Federal Aviation Administration rules published last month restricting the use of drones to within the line of sight of the operator, UPS is hoping to persuade the FAA to allow the company to make emergency deliveries by drone.
