Welcome Back, Kotter Comic #7

In the No. 7 issue of the Welcome Back, Kotter comic book, adapted from the television show of the same name, the Sweathogs go to Camp Waterloo in the Catskills where they work as junior counselors and are joined by Gabe and Julie Kotter and Principal Woodman. Gabe is serving as director, Woodman assistant director and Julie the camp cook.

The Sweathogs – Vinnie Barbarino, Arnold Horshack, Freddie “Boom Boom” Washington and Juan Epstein – waste no time getting into trouble and fraternizing with the girls’ camp across the lake. Unfortunately, the Sweathogs only ever went to summer camp in this comic adaptation and not in the actual television show. You can read more about the comic at Television Obscurities.

Robert Hegyes, who played Juan Epstein in the show, died Thursday at age 60.

  1. Didn’t Mr. Kotter once try to take the Sweathogs camping, only they got lost and ended up spending the night in a parking lot in the Bronx or something?
